C+C Photography Gallery is pleased to announce Nathan Coe: Repose. Opening March 7th at 313½ Worth Avenue, we are pleased to offer Coe’s newest series The Norton, as well as a curated selection of his most celebrated Palm Beach photography.
With a passion for formal technique and composition, the work of internationally renowned photographer Nathan Coe exudes a reverence for the classics with a uniquely modern point of view. Recognized for his evocative, cinematic beach landscapes, Coe is also known for introducing blithe, human protagonists. The nude female figure—often shown with her back to the camera, as if blissfully unaware of the artist’s presence—represents the innate human connection to nature.
Coe's newly released 2024 series The Norton builds upon the artist's signature style, however this time his female protagonist's natural surroundings come in the form of the Norton Museum of Art in Palm Beach. Bringing a fresh new take to a beloved motif, The Norton series is unique in its use of the museum's collection. For the first time, Coe has brilliantly juxtaposed the shape of the human body with contemporary art and sculpture.
Exhibition highlights include the new series' titular work, The Norton, photographed in the museum's entryway alongside a vast sculpture by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. Here, the nude model stands inside the rectangular water feature as if to indicate that she, too, is part of the installation. Other photographs of note include Sculpture Garden and End White Supremacy, which make a powerful statement through the female figure's interaction with works by Antony Gormley and Sam Durant.
Intended to be framed and exhibited in large format, Coe’s sprawling photographs often appear almost like paintings, their sublime energy radiating through space.
Coe’s newest 2024 series "The Norton" will be featured in an upcoming exhibition titled "Repose," opening March 7th at our Palm Beach gallery.
